Highlights of the Department


The department has been very vibrant since its inception and has organized various innovative events every year. Given below are few highlights of the department

 

  • Pioneer in providing platform exclusively for Training & Placement Officers

 

The department organized first ever National Workshop exclusively for Training and Placement Officers on 28th & 29th Oct 2005. This workshop titled “Emerging Trends in HR Management for the campus selection” gave the participants a real impetus to strengthen their placement cell and to draw a road map for future. Top executives from industry like Dr.M.P Ravindra, VP-Head of Education & Research Dept., M/s Infosys, Mr.V.Sesha Sai, Education Program Manager-India & SAARC, M/s CISCO Systems, Mr.Anand Vissa, VP (HR), M/s Caritor (India) etc took part in this workshop as dignitaries / invited speakers.


With huge success in the above workshop, the department subsequently organized two more national workshops for TPOs i.e (i) “Train The Trainers” & (ii) “Proven Techniques for Successful Career Options” in the year 2006 and 2007 respectively.


These three national workshops almost created a new wave among placement & training fraternity in academia.

  • Floated associations for mutual leverage

 

The outcome of above workshops was formation of two important associations, i.e ACCESS & IAPT, headquarters of both being in CIT Campus. 
While ACCESS-“Association of engineering colleges for the joint campus employment services and selection” addresses issues at the micro level, mainly concerned with campus selection, the other association IAPT-“Indian Association of Placement & Training Officers” addresses broader issues at the macro level and work towards creating conducive placement & training environment by influencing policy making bodies.

 

  • Lending helping hand to job seekers across the country, particularly from rural areas, by organizing mega job / career fairs.

 

The department has successfully organized mega job fairs in 2007, 2009 and 2015. The basic objective of these job fairs is to provide placement opportunities to students of different educational qualifications and competencies. Many top-notch employers have taken part in these fairs and have hired candidates in large number.

 

  • Nurturing students through career and personal counseling

 

Understanding the importance of maintaining mental health of students, the department 
through various channels does offer counseling service to needy students.  As a part of mass student counseling the department organized one day seminar “Life Skills & Stress Management “ on 7th Feb, 2009. Dr.Satyanaraya M.T, a well known psychiatrist in Karnataka and Mrs.Radha Sandesh, Psychologist, Thammaiah Hospital, Tumkur handled the technical sessions. Also, the department assist students develop/clarify their academic and career interests, and their short and long-term goals through individual counseling and group sessions.

 

  • Developing IPR Culture in the institute

 

The department in association with Karnataka Council for Technological Up gradation, Karnataka Udyog Mitra and District Industries Center organized one day seminar on “Intellectual Property Rights” on 7th November 2008. Mr.Jayadevappa H.R, MD, GTTC, Govt. of Karnataka inaugurated the event. Mr.Sirsikar B S, MD, KCTU, Mr.Chandrashekar N, Jt.Director, Technical Cell, C&I Secretariat and Mr.Parameshwarappa K P, Jt.Director, DIC, Tumkur took part in the inaugural function as guests. Experts in the field of IPR both from Industry and Academia participated in this seminar as resource persons.

 

  • Leading from the front in combating recession.

 

To keep the placement meter healthy in recession, the department started exploring different career avenues to students and helped them in securing jobs. In this direction to spread the awareness regarding job opportunities available currently for the fresh engineering graduates in KPO sector, the department organized one day seminar on “KPO awareness” on 11th May 2009. Mr.Nimish Soni, MD of Xchanging India, Mr.Ramnarayan D.S, VP and Mr.Kamal Kumar Chand, VP(HR)  of Xchanging India handled the technical sessions and interacted with placement officers of different engineering colleges across the state who took part in this seminar.

 

  • Passport Mela

 

The department in association with India Post organized Pass Port Mela on 8th & 9th May 2009 for the benefit of students, faculty members and alumni. Mr.Chandrashekar Achar, Supdt. Of Post Offices, Tumkur Div., Mr.Parasurammaiah, Asst. Supdt. Of Post Offices, Tumkur Div., Mr.V Anantharamu, Asst. Supdt. Of Post Offices, Tumkur Div. and Dr.D.S Suresh Kumar, Director, CIT, Gubbi participated in the inaugural function. 280 passport applications were submitted during this mela

 

  • CIT- First choice of Wipro for its Mission 10X Program in Tumkur

 

Wipro Technologies collaborated with Training & Placement Department, CIT for its Mission10X program, which was conducted in CIT campus from 2nd to 6th March 2009. Faculties from select engineering colleges in Tumkur district participated in this workshop. This programs aims to enhance employability of graduate engineers in India. It promotes systemic changes to current teaching-learning paradigms in engineering education. At the end of this program the participants gets the following three international certification
1) The Dale Carnegie high impact teaching skills certificate
2) The Cambridge University (UK) teaching learning certificate
3) The Mission 10X International Certificate for teaching and learning
Mr.S.Nagarjuna, General Manager, Mission10X, Wipro Technologies, Dr.R.Dattakumar, Sr.Manager, Mission10X, Wipro Technologies, Dr.M A Venkatesh, Principal, SIET, Tumkur, Dr.Suresh Kumar, Director-CIT and Dr.C R Pradeep, Principal-CIT took part in the valedictory function of this program and addressed all the participants.

 

  • Special training program for SC / ST students

 

The department in association with MSME Development Institute, Bangalore organized 22 days training program for SC/ST students on “Business Skill Development” from 18th Jan 2010 to 13 Feb, 2010 in the campus. This program was organized to develop entrepreneurial spirit among the SC/ST candidates and thereby make them self employed in the coming years. Mr.K. Kandasamy, Asst.Director (G&C), MSME Development Institute, Bangalore, Dr.V.Mani, President, Helping Hand Association, Bangalore, Dr.Suresh Kumar D S, Director, CIT-Gubbi and Dr.C R Pradeep, Principal, CIT-Gubbi participated in the inaugural function of this workshop.

 

  • Strong bond with Alumni

 

The first batch which graduated from CIT academy was in the year 2005. Since then the college has built excellent alumni network with every passing out batch and are in touch with most of them on a continuous basis. Though alumni are not in the campus, the college has ensured that they are integral part of most of the events organized in the campus. CIT alumni have been making significant contributions to the development of the college and are directly or indirectly associated with various events organized from the college. Given below are few of the contributions made by CIT alumni:

  • Since last 4 years few CIT alumni have been participating as resource persons in the training programs (both technical as well as soft skills) arranged for students.
  • Many alumni have been helping final year students in terms of selecting and successfully completing the project work.
  • Many alumni have been giving leads for final placement of students.
  • Alumni help students for preparing for the selection process.
  • Few alumni have joined CIT as teaching faculty and are serving the college sincerely.
  • Many alumni take part in CIT annual cultural fest “FLAIR” and make it a successfully one.
  • Alumni contribute both technical as well as general articles for the annual college magazine “CONTOUR”

 

Thus in one way or the other CIT alumni have been associating with the college.
