OVERVIEW

The Department of Information Science and Engineering exists since the inception of the institution, in the year 2001 with an annual intake of 60 students. The department offers B.E. Information Science and Engineering program.

With the co-operation and involvement of the dedicated team of well-qualified faculty members, the department constantly strives to improve its academic standards.  The Department has excellent infrastructure in terms of laboratories, classrooms, seminar hall etc.  The department laboratories are interconnected through a well-designed seamless network with Internet facility with the speed of 100 Mbps to facilitate the students’ access to web resources and meeting the demands of the regular curriculum and latest technology needs.

VISION

The VISION of Information Science and Engineering Department is to educate and train the students to impart strong fundamental knowledge in the field of Information Science and Engineering and offer a high-quality education in the science of computing.

MISSION

"The mission of Information Science and Engineering Department is to provide students with an understanding of Information Science concepts, processes & tools and equip students with the analytical design and communication skills necessary to build computing systems".


ACTIVITIES

 

    • Alumni Talk on ‘Recent Database Technologies: NoSQL, Graph QL and its impact in IT’ on September 29, 2018

      The Department of Information Science and Engineering organized an Alumni Talk on ‘Recent Database Technologies: NoSQL, Graph QL and its impact in IT’ on September 29, 2018 for the III, V and VII semester ISE students. Mr. Tejas N Bontadka (Batch: 2011-2015), Web developer, ndVOR IT Solutions Pvt Ltd, Bangalore and Mr. Bhargav Narayan K P (Batch: 2011-2015), Full Stack web developer, Morph Digital Solutions, Bangalore were the speakers.

 

    • Technical Symposium INFO TEQNIX 2018 on April 21, 2018

    • The Department of Information Science and Engineering organized an Intra College Technical Symposium INFO TEQNIX 2018 on April 21st 2018. 110 students from six departments of CIT were participated in the events. Paper Presentation, Poster Presentation and Hobby Project. Cash prizes are given to first two places in each event.

  • 1. Following students have participated in 19th VTU Youth Fest 2018 “Janani 2018”, held at Bheemanna Khandre Institute of Technology, Bhalki from 2nd to 4th November, 2018.

  • 2. Ms. Chandana N and Ms. Pushpa S of V semester ISE have participated in the workshop on Internet of Things on 26th October 2018 and workshop on Internet of Things on 27th and 28th October 2018 at “ATMOS 2018”, the National Techno-Management Festival of BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus.


  • 3. Ms. Nayana H P and Ms. Arpitha D of III semester ISE have participated in the event “AAVISHKAR of IdEEEas” held on 13th October 2018 organized by IEEE SIT Student Branch at Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur.


  • 4. Following students have presented papers on the respective titles in the National conference on Technology for Rural Development (NCTFRD-18) held at Channabasaveshwara Institute of Technology, Gubbi on 12th and 13th October 2018.

  • 5. Following students have participated in “PRANATHI 2K18 - Inter Collegiate Celebration” held at Jyothy Institute of Technology, Bengaluru on 5th and 6th October 2018.

  • 6. Mr. Dayanidhi R S and Mr. Srinidhi G of V Semester ISE and Ms. Pooja P S of III Semester ISE have actively participated in the “HACKFEST 2018, a 24 hour hackathon” at Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur on 29th and 30th September 2018.

 

  • 7. Mr. Karthik N, Ms. Isiri G S and Mr. Karthik Bharadwaj A of V Semester ISE have actively participated in the “C# Workshop” organized by IEEE SIT Student Branch at Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur on 24th and 25th August 2018.

INDUSTRIAL VISITS

A campus visit was carried out to INFOSYS, Mysore on 07th October, 2016 especially for 7th semester student. The main objective behind the visit was to make student aware about how various activities related to software technology, financing and human resource are carried out in company and give them feel of the same as soon as they start there course

 

55 students left for visit from CITRIS, Tumkur at 6 a.m. and took about four hours to cover the distance. The company is located in Mysore.  As soon as we reached the company, we were guided by the security head to get our visitor pass for visiting the campus. Later we were guided by Mr. Shivakumar who guided us to different blocks in the campus.

 

A brief overview about Infosys was given by Mr. Sundar at Mahatma Gandhi auditorium ILI building. He also inspired the students to take part in various research and developmental activities and also about recent trends and technologies.

 

Later we were taken to food court to have our lunch and we thanked the staff for their cooperation and left the campus to Tumkur.

INNOVATIVE PRACTICES

  • CS-for-CIT - IT SUPPORT FOR NON-IT - Faculty Development Program

 

 

This program was organized by CS4CIT-IT SUPPORT FOR NONIT team on 06/02/2017 and 09/02/2017.
With the motto of creating the awareness of IT skills among the NONIT faculties.

 

The IT SUPPORT FOR NON-IT team under the guidance of Dr Sridhar K N Rao and Dr Shanthala CP planned and conducted hands-on program on BLOGSPOT, GOOGLE APPS, DROP BOX and MOODLE.


Day1: The team presented and conducted hands-on session on BlogSpot and Google Apps.
Day2: The team presented and conducted hands-on session on Drop Box and Moodle.


The program was conducted for all NON IT department faculties of CIT, Gubbi. Around 20 faculties participated the program.

Moodle - An open source learning Platform is used to,

 

  1. Share study materials, notes, syllabus, Lecture plan, Lab Manual etc., with the students.
  2. Obtain mid-term and end-term students feedback.
  3. Conduct Quiz for CBCS scheme students.
