OVERVIEW

Information Science & Engineering is an interdisciplinary field primarily concerned with the analysis, collection, classification, manipulation, storage, retrieval and dissemination of information. Practitioners within the field study the application and usage of knowledge in organizations, along with the interaction between people, organizations and any existing information systems, with the aim of creating, replacing, improving or understanding information systems.

At CIT, the Information science and Engineering branch started in the academic year 2001 with an annual intake of 60 students which subsequently increased to 120 in the year 2006. In 2012 annual intake was reduced to 60.The department has grown steadily over the years and currently offers an undergraduate (B.E.,) degree in Information Science Engineering.

VISION

The VISION of Information Science & Engineering Department is to Educate & train the students to impart strong fundamental knowledge in the field of Information Science & Engineering and offer a high-quality education in the science of computing

MISSION

“The mission of Information science and Engineering Department is to provide students with an understanding of Information Science concepts, processes & tools and equip students with the analytical design and communication skills necessary to build computing systems.”


ACTIVITIES

Students and Faculty Activities

 

Academic Year: 2017 - 18

 

      • Department of CSE and ISE jointly organized “31st CSI Karnataka State Students Convention KNEW-2017” with the theme, Digital Transformation: Challenges and Opportunities, on 13th and 14th October 2017 in CIT, Gubbi.

       

       

    • Knowledge Transfer session on  Application Development using PHP by Anil Kumar Assistant Professor, Department of ISE,  CIT, Gubbi for CIT Staff on 1st Sep 2017.

     

     

      • Faculty Development Programs IT SUPPORT FOR NON-IT by Thara D K, Vinay T P, Pradeep M, Assistant professor, Department of ISE, CIT, Gubbi for CIT Staff on 3rd Feb 2017.

     

     

      • Faculty developement program on "GOOGLE CLASSROOM" by Thara D K, Vinay T P, Pradeep M, Assistant professor, Department of ISE, CIT, Gubbi for CIT Staff on 22nd and 25th Feb 2017.

     

     

      • Students attended and got certificate of merit in THINK & INK organized by "Education & Research Foundation".

    Technical:

          • Students of ISE department participated in 2 days National Conference held at SIET Tumkur.

         

          • Students of ISE department participated in KNEW event held at CIT,Gubbi.

           

          • Students of ISE department participated in VTU Fest held at Sir.MVIT Bangalore.

         

       

       

      Academic year: 2014-15

       

      Technical:

       

       

          • Department organized a two day workshop on “Software Testing” for 6th semester ISE students on 26th and 27th February 2015 held at CIT, Gubbi.

           

        • Students of ISE department attended eleven day Creativity workshop sponsored by VGST.

         

          • Faculty Development Program on “Techniques in Big Data” by Mrs. Sharayu Pradeep, Assistant professor, Department of CSE, CIT, Gubbi for CIT Staff on 22nd and 23rd Dec.

           

       

      Academic year: 2013-14

       

          • Department of ISE conducted “Night Coding” competition for students of all the branches on 6th august 2014 at CIT, Gubbi

       

       

      Academic year: 2012-13

       

      • Students proposed project on “Advanced multipurpose Multigrid embedded DC Microgrid System” the project approved and awarded by Karnataka Council for Science and Technology.

       

      • Department has organized workshop on “Hack tricks (Ethical Hacking)” on 8th November 2012 held at CIT, Gubbi.

       

      • Students participated in “A National Level Technical Symposium- Knew ”at CIT, Gubbi. 

INDUSTRIAL VISITS

A campus visit was carried out to INFOSYS, Mysore on 07th October, 2016 especially for 7th semester student. The main objective behind the visit was to make student aware about how various activities related to software technology, financing and human resource are carried out in company and give them feel of the same as soon as they start there course

 

55 students left for visit from CITRIS, Tumkur at 6 a.m. and took about four hours to cover the distance. The company is located in Mysore.  As soon as we reached the company, we were guided by the security head to get our visitor pass for visiting the campus. Later we were guided by Mr. Shivakumar who guided us to different blocks in the campus.

 

A brief overview about Infosys was given by Mr. Sundar at Mahatma Gandhi auditorium ILI building. He also inspired the students to take part in various research and developmental activities and also about recent trends and technologies.

 

Later we were taken to food court to have our lunch and we thanked the staff for their cooperation and left the campus to Tumkur.

INNOVATIVE PRACTICES

  • CS-for-CIT - IT SUPPORT FOR NON-IT - Faculty Development Program

 

 

This program was organized by CS4CIT-IT SUPPORT FOR NONIT team on 06/02/2017 and 09/02/2017.
With the motto of creating the awareness of IT skills among the NONIT faculties.

 

The IT SUPPORT FOR NON-IT team under the guidance of Dr Sridhar K N Rao and Dr Shanthala CP planned and conducted hands-on program on BLOGSPOT, GOOGLE APPS, DROP BOX and MOODLE.


Day1: The team presented and conducted hands-on session on BlogSpot and Google Apps.
Day2: The team presented and conducted hands-on session on Drop Box and Moodle.


The program was conducted for all NON IT department faculties of CIT, Gubbi. Around 20 faculties participated the program.

Moodle - An open source learning Platform is used to,

 

  1. Share study materials, notes, syllabus, Lecture plan, Lab Manual etc., with the students.
  2. Obtain mid-term and end-term students feedback.
  3. Conduct Quiz for CBCS scheme students.
