OVERVIEW

overview

 

India has given lot of impetus for the development of Science and technology since ancient time. We find enough evidence for this in our religious texts, Vedas and Upanishads. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in his monumental work on World history describes India as the cradle of human civilization. Vedas have praised our country as ratnagarbhavasundara (a repository of gems). Our country not only has hidden in its womb precious gems and pearls but also has given birth to scientists, technocrats, doctors and academicians of highest merit. Science gives the ideas and technology crystallizes those ideas into a material form. This is the relationship which exists between science and technology. Science extends its field from a very minute nucleon to a huge nebula. In CIT, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics departments work under the umbrella of the Department of Basic Sciences. The department was established along with the establishment of Channabasaveshwara Institute of Technology in the year 2001. Since its inception the department is imparting quality education in Physics to the students of the various core branches of engineering.

 

The Department currently has 04 well experienced and dedicated faculty members. Apart from teaching in a most understandable way the department also aims to make students industrious so that, later they can become fit enough to shoulder our country in the task of National Development. To their credit the faculty members of the department have number of quality publications in National and International journals. The department has individual cabins and computers with internet facility for all faculty members. The department has state of the art laboratory facilities with experiment to student ratio 1:2 to conduct undergraduate level experiments in Engineering Physics and Applied Science. The library in the college has a rich collection of books and journals in Physics. Over 1500 books written by various authors are available in the library to quench the knowledge thirst of students and faculty members. The library has subscribed to several journals and has provided access to various E-resources in physics, which include,

    • Indian Journal of Radio and Space Physics
    • Indian Journal of Physics (Pramana)
    • International Journal of Material Science.

To create a seat of knowledge in physics and emerge as a center of excellence by providing quality education in physics to the undergraduate students of various core branches of engineering who take up physics as a part of their curricula.

 Encouraging students to write articles in science and improving science communication with the general public.


 To collaborate, with reputed Institutions and Universities to foster research activity in the department..


 To organize, seminars, conferences and guest lecture series in the department to infuse scientific temper and motivate students to imbibe morality and values.

 

 To show documentaries and movies about Scientists which captivate students’ attention and motivate them in pursuing their studies with Great Spirit and Enthusiasm.
