Research Centre – Department of Mechanical Engineering

The Mechanical Engineering Branch was established in 2010-11 and has since become one of the largest branches in the Institute. Recognized as a Research Center by Visvesvaraya Technological University, it offers Ph.D./M.Sc. (Engg.) by research programs under section (41) of the VTU Act 1994 (Ref. No VTU/Aca-Res-Cen/2015-16/6502, dated 21/10/2015). Equipped with state-of-the-art labs, workshops, and infrastructure, the Research Center provides a conducive environment for scholarly pursuits. Faculty members and students in Mechanical Engineering are exposed to cutting-edge areas such as Material Science, Manufacturing, Design, Thermal, and Materials Engineering. The department boasts competent facilities for research, project work, and other academic endeavors. Key instruments and equipment available include Compression Molding Technique for Fabricating FRP Composites, Tilting Furnace with Stir casting setup for Metal Matrix Composites, Universal Testing Machine, Fatigue Testing Machine, Vickers Hardness Tester, and more. In pursuit of excellence in research and teaching, the Mechanical Engineering Department has forged partnerships with industry players such as Winyasa Technologies, Dhio Research Centre, CADD CENTRE, Cadmaxx Solutions Pvt Ltd, CADDPRO, and EduCADD through MoUs. Moreover, faculty members have significantly contributed to the Institute’s intellectual property portfolio by filing patents, with twelve patents already obtaining licenses/IPR. The Research Center boasts Six Research Guides.

Objectives:

The objectives of the Mechanical Research Centre are as follows:

2. To establish an conducive environment for conducting research activities effectively.
3. To nurture and guide emerging research talents demonstrating potential in devising solutions with global significance.

5. Engage in industry collaborations to address the immediate challenges.

These objectives collectively aim to establish the Mechanical Research Centre as a hub of excellence in mechanical engineering research, education, and innovation, with a significant impact on academia, industry, and society at large.
